Mike Green scored his third and fourth goals in the past three games and is now just three away from the 30-goal plateau. If he does it, he will be the first defenseman to hit that magical mark since Kevin Hatcher in 1992-93.

But Green left the game early after getting tangled up with Steven Stamkos in the corner to the right of the Washington net. Green slumped to the ice and stayed there for a few seconds — players on both teams actually slowed up or stopped skating thinking there would be a whistle because the puck came back into the Caps zone and Green was laboring to get to the bench.

He sat on the bench hunched over for a few minutes and then left for the locker room with 1:12 left in the game.

Both Green and Bruce Boudreau said he just had the wind knocked out of him. Green even went as far as to say he is fine. This may very well be true, but Green was moving very slowly after the game for someone who just had the wind knocked out of them.

Obviously, the Caps need him to be healthy and he can’t miss much time if he’s going to get to 30 (his health for the playoffs would obviously come far, far before trying to reach a milestone).
