Bruce Boudreau said Mike Green is sick, and was sent home to prevent further spreading of the illness throughout the locker room. Green has been sick a couple of times this season, and has either practiced and/or played through it, so either the team is being extra cautious since the team has extra time off or Green has something else wrong with him.
Boudreau also said Donald Brashear is not ready to play after leaving practice early. The Caps will recall someone by Wednesday’s game against the N.Y. Islanders, likely tomorrow but Boudreau didn’t want to say who said player would be.

There is something of a big game tonight for the Caps’ seeding purposes. New Jersey plays its final game in hand on the Caps against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Versus. The Devils had three games in hand a week ago, but have lost four straight and have not gained any ground. Washington currently has a one-point lead on New Jersey, and both teams will have six games to play after tonight.
“I think it is realistic,” Boudreau said. “It makes those last six games, if you want the second seed, pretty important. I think we like playing at home so it would be beneficial for us to be as high as we can in the standings. We will be watching the TV pretty closely tonight.”
