Tyler Sloan is on the premise, so he is the guy the Caps have tabbed in case Tom Poti can’t play tomorrow against Pittsburgh.

Poti is on the ice for practice. Alex Ovechkin is also out there.


It might be a surprise that Karl Alzner wasn’t recalled, but if they can get away with not bringing him back until say, the Carolina game March 21 or the Toronto game March 24, the Caps would probably like to do it. If he doesn’t come back until then, it guarantees he won’t play 40 games, thereby delaying free unrestricted free agency for a year.

UPDATE: Sergei Fedorov and Michael Nylander are not practicing. Here’s the forward lines at least (the seven defensemen have been rotating together):
