DENVER — The biggest loser under Colorado’s newly drawn congressional map appears to be Republican Rep. Mike Coffman.
Mr. Coffman’s once-safe 6th Congressional District has morphed into an evenly divided toss-up seat, with 34 percent Republicans, 33 percent Democrats and 32 percent unaffiliated voters, under a Democratic map chosen last week by Denver District Court Judge Robert Hyatt.

The state Republican Party is still weighing whether to appeal the decision to the Colorado Supreme Court. In the meantime, Mr. Coffman has released a statement saying that while he’s “deeply disappointed” with the redrawn map, he’s looking forward to a truly competitive election.
“I love a tough race, and I’ve really missed not having had a challenge since the Republican congressional primary that I won in 2008,” said Mr. Coffman. “This will be a great opportunity to sharpen my skills.”
So far only Democratic state Rep. Joe Miklosi has announced he will challenge Mr. Coffman, but speculation is swirling about the possibility of a run by former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, who lost his bid to unseat Sen. Michael Bennet in the 2010 Democratic primary.
