Turns out that Joe Gibbs’ second go-round as Redskins coach — resulting in a losing record over four full seasons — hasn’t appeared to diminish his standing among the Redskin faithful.

Those four Super Bowl appearances and three Super Bowl championships in his first tenure still carry enough weight to make him the choice among Redskin fans for the first statue to be erected for a Redskin — if one is ever erected. There are none so far, and no plans have been reported for one. From comments, emails and a telephone poll on The Sports Reporters on ESPN 980, Gibbs was the only choice to receive numerous votes. Others who received single votes included Sammy Baugh, Art Monk, John Riggins, Darrell Green, Larry Brown — and Dexter Manley.
