I’m hearing that if Frank Howard does come to work with the Washington Nationals, it will likely be in some role with the MASN Nationals shows and broadcasts. Those talks are still going on, though, for the life of me I can’t figure out how difficult it could be. It should be a no-brainer to have the guy who you are putting up a statue for outside Nationals Park as part of your organization.

Hopefully, the Nationals will invite Howard to spring training for a stint. He would be a good presence for players and fans alike. Howard was not part of NatsFest, though he did attend the Hot Plate luncheon on Friday. He was the featured speaker Sunday night at the Potomac Nationals dinner.

None of the Nationals coaches were at NatsFest, either, which was shortsighted. They bring in nearly a whole new coaching staff and don’t bring any to the fan festival. I’m sure fans would have loved to meet Jim Riggleman or Marquis Grissom.

I will be on The Sports Reporters on ESPN 980 AM on Monday, Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m.
