There isn’t much for Washington National and Baltimore Orioles fans to argue about these days, except for who has the worst team.
But there is always the debate about who has the better “face of the franchise.”
In Baltimore, it’s Nick Markakis. In Washington, it’s Ryan Zimmerman.
Markakis is 25, Zimmerman is 24. Both of them signed long-term contracts this year. They have put up similar numbers in healthy seasons. This year, Markakis is batting .305 with 16 home runs, 41 doubles, 90 RBI and 79 runs scored. Zimmerman is hitting .300 with with 27 home runs, 31 doubles, 90 RBI and 94 runs scored.
On Saturday, the two young stars of their respective franchises will go head-to-head in a video game home run derby.
The battle will take place at the Under Armour Retail Specialty Store at the Westfield Annapolis Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Marlins outfielder Jeremy Hermida, in town for the series against the Nationals, will also participate. All three are scheduled to sign autographs as well.
