Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens has lost his re-election after having been convicted of failing to disclose gifts from friends, the AP is reporting.

Though Stevens has lost, this doesn’t prove the power of incumbency.  The election was close, even though Stevens had just been convicted in federal court and other Republicans were taking a whooping around the country.

And a conviction isn’t a bar to re-election. Remember Marion Barry?
