Prosecutors will not pursue stalking charges against former D.C. “mayor for life” Marion Barry following days of accusations, countercharges and drama involving Barry and a one-time girlfriend, Sarah Abruzzese is reporting.

Mr. Barry was arrested Saturday by U.S. Park Police and charged with misdemeanor stalking.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said a review of the evidence in the case prompted prosecutors to drop the charges against Barry.

You see. I told you it was probably a misunderstanding. When it comes to facing criminal charges because of a woman, Barry says, “Set me up once, bitch, shame on you. Set me up twice, bitch, shame on me.”

With this incident behind him, Barry now can focus on more serious issues of city governance — like paying his taxes.

I think David Letterman said it best: Gram for gram, you won’t find a better politician anywhere else.
