The Republican governor says he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country, adding that he thought about hiking on the Trail but wanted to do something “exotic.”

Well, that explains everything!

Sanford says he doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. Because every now and then every governor ditches his security detail, goes away without informing his aides and family, and says he’s in one place when he’s really in another.

I wonder if he got lost on the Appalachian Trail and wound up in Argentina. That happens more often than you might think.

Now that Sanford is back in the States, he can focus on his bid for the 2012 presidential nomination. Oh yeah!
