Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has begun a four-day gabfest marathon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his televised talk show “Alo Presidente,” the BBC is reporting.

Day One featured Chavez at an electrical plant, where he expounded on the global economy, energy and corruption.

Critics say Chavez is trying to deflect attention from an anti-Chavez seminar this weekend.

I think he just wanted to take advantage of the May sweeps ratings.

“Alo Presidente” is one of Venezuela’s most popular shows, which just goes to show you it’s good to be el jefe.

Chavez is like the Oprah Winfrey of his country but with fewer prizes for viewers.  He’s talking about producing a new show — “Dancing with the Czars.”
