Everybody is back here at steamy Redskin Park where your heroes hit the field at 11 a.m. for their final OTA of the week. They come back next week for four workouts and then that’s it until training camp.
One interesting leftover from yesterday’s interviews came when coach Jim Zorn was pressed about Shawn Springs’ absence. The veteran cornerback is hanging out in Parts Unknown. The Redskins say they haven’t talked to Springs but it remains to be seen how hard they’re trying.
Zorn gave an insightful answer when asked about Springs:
“I hate to have a guy do his own thing but I’m not upset that Shawn is not here. Shawn is a man and he has to try and do his own thing. His teammates would love to have him here. I don’t want to fuss and moan and groan and create a stir. We’ll talk when we can find him and we’ll see what’s going on. He’s done this for years so this is nothing unusual. Everybody is looking for me to make a statement on how I really feel about it. I haven’t thought about him when I’m behind my desk getting ready for the next practice. He will be welcomed when he comes and he won’t be reprimanded when he comes.”
It would be interesting to see how Zorn would be reacting if it was an offensive skilled player that was “doing his own thing.” I think it would be a little more controversial.
What I don’t like about Springs’ absence is that it might give some players (LaRon Landry) that they can take advantage of the rookie coach.
*Interesting little development here. At 10:50 a.m., offensive lineman Jason Fabini hopped into a cab. I’ll check on that with Zorn after practice.
