For the first time in nearly a month, the injuries were not the main story line during Jim Zorn’s Monday afternoon press briefing. In fact, he got it down to about 7 names:
- Albert Haynesworth: The defensive tackle’s balky ankle flared up again late in the game, which kept him off the field off and on down the stretch. Zorn said the team “will wait to see what happens this week.”

- Mike Sellers: The fullback was taken to the hospital last night because of a thigh bruise that had compartmental syndrome — which is exactly what Jason Taylor had last year in his calf, where blood builds up and it has to be drained. (sorry, hope you’re not eating lunch) Sellers spent the night at the hospital and Zorn isn’t sure he’ll be ready to go for the Raiders game. “If I know Mike he’ll try to make it back,” Zorn said. “We’ll just have to watch it.”
- Clinton Portis: The team’s top tailback is headed to Pittsburgh again with a trainer for more concussions tests today and tomorrow; They’ll return on Tuesday night. At that point, the Redskins will make a decision on his availability or possible placement on the injured reserve list. “We want to make sure we do the right thing for the team and for Clinton,” Zorn said.
- Antwaan Randle El: The wideout had a “clavicle separatation,” but Zorn said he’s already “bouncing around” and shouldn’t miss any time.
- DeAngelo Hall: The team’s top cornerback remains questionable, with the team still waiting to see how his knee will respond. It doesn’t sound like Zorn expects Hall to make his second “homecoming” of the season, this time to Oakland.
- And on the defensive line, Cornelius Griffin had his arthritic knee flare up, and Kedric Golston has a sore elbow. Zorn expected neither to miss time this week.
Zorn also gave his team Monday off, despite not coming off a victory (teams always have Tuesday off). He said he did it because of the tough slate of recent games and the long, cross-country road trip to Oakland coming up this weekend.
“So emotional,” Zorn said. “With last week’s game and this week’s game, I just gave them a break.”
