The owner of McArthur’s Bakery in St. Louis knows his bills will go through the roof as a result of the passage of the cap and trade bill. Disappointed with his congressman’s (Russ Carnahan, D-Mo) vote to pass the legislation on Friday, he posted a scrolling message outside his bakery shop for all passersby to see (h/t gateway pundit.) The message said:”Russ Carnahan voted to close us and other small business.” Perhaps this action will spur other small business owners to do the same, and others will put a sign outside their store or place of business describing how the cap and trade bill is bad for business.

UPDATE 6/30/09 3:20 pm :A spokesman from Rep. Carnahan’s office has responded to McArthur’s Bakery and told the Washington Times,
“I think there’s been confusion about the issue generally, and I think the estimates that I have seen are the fact that small businesses much like McArthur’s probably experience a dollar more per day adding up to about $365 a year, which is a small price to pay when you consider it would give our country energy independence, which we have been working towards for some time now.”
