When you believe that your political position is the only moral one, conventional rules of decorum may be sidestepped. There is no need to consider opposing points of view. Intricacies pertaining to your belief need not be challenged because your fundamental notions are omnipotent. Those who might disagree are deemed immoral.
You’ve become the arbiter of right and wrong. There is no tactic that cannot be called upon to stop the forces working against you. All that matters is the abolition of your opposition and the installation of your version of the greater good.
With iron-clad certitude, you exhort others to conform to the standards you’ve determined to be righteous. After all, they will eventually understand what is so obvious to you. Sycophants and grandstanders seeking easy plaudits will be eager to jump on the bandwagon.
If you can solicit enough people to achieve a critical mass, you now have an unstoppable force. Fear and intimidation will bring in the stragglers.
At that point, you’ve won. And I hope your beliefs are right.
