Revival of 'Spirit of the Elbe' is the Roadmap to Peace

Revival of 'Spirit of the Elbe' is the Roadmap to Peace (sponsored)

April 25, 2024, marks the 79th anniversary of the meeting between the American and Soviet soldiers at the Elbe River on the eve of their joint victory in the war against Nazi Germany. There are several memorial places in Washington and Moscow where Americans and Russians, including both officials and the public, meet every year on that day to celebrate the event, honor war veterans, call for a long-awaited international dialogue, and revive the spirit of an alliance born through the efforts of our ancestors which should serve as an example and guide for today’s leaders. Today, we witness the broken relationship between nations and nature. It is time to stop this process leading to the abyss and concentrate on creating a better future for our countries and humankind.

From the April 25, 2020 joint statement by Presidents Trump and Putin

The “Spirit of the Elbe” is an example of how our countries can put aside differences, build trust, and cooperate in pursuit of a greater cause. As we work today to confront the most important challenges of the 21st century, we pay tribute to the valor and courage of all those who fought together to defeat fascism. Their heroic feat will never be forgotten.
