GOP lawmakers tell Donald Trump to move State of Union to Senate

George Washington delivered his first State of the Union address in the Senate chamber. Now a group of Republicans says President Trump should do the same thing, going around House Democrats who a day earlier had told the president to postpone or cancel the annual address, currently slated for Jan. 29.

Nancy Pelosi shifts reasoning on State of Union speech delay

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi renewed her call to postpone the State of the Union address but changed her reasons Thursday, saying her worry isn't that the Secret Service can't do its job but rather that they shouldn't be asked to do it while they're not getting paid.

Feds can’t say how many children were separated at border: IG

The government can't say how many illegal immigrant children were separated from their parents at the border over the years, but the number is in the thousands in just the last two years, according to a new inspector general's report Thursday.

Republicans blast Democrats call to delay State of Union

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to raise the political stakes on the partial government shutdown Wednesday by telling President Trump to postpone his State of the Union address, arguing that it's too dangerous to give a speech to a joint session of Congress with the Secret Service working without pay.

Sheila Jackson Lee sued by ex-staffer over rape claim firing

A former congressional staffer filed a lawsuit last week saying she was raped by an employee at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and when she said she was taking legal action against the foundation she was fired by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Immigration group demands SPLC revoke ‘hate’ label

One of the most prominent groups advocating for stricter immigration went to court Wednesday to demand a judge order the Southern Poverty Law Center to stop labeling it a "hate group," accusing the self-described watchdog of running an illegal racket to silence political opponents.

House cancels vacation to work on ending shutdown

The House will skip its planned weeklong vacation that had been scheduled for next week in order to work on ending the partial government shutdown, Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer announced Tuesday.

Federal judge blocks citizenship question on 2020 census
