The Maryland Republican Party has appointed state Delegate Justin D. Ready as its interim executive director.

Mr. Ready, a freshman Carroll Republican, was appointed Tuesday and will lead the group’s fundraising efforts until a permanent replacement is found for former executive director Kim Jorns, who has accepted a job leading Michigan’s GOP chapter.

Mr. Ready, 29, previously served as the state’s GOP director in 2008 and 2009, until he was fired by then-Chariman James Pelura, who was then forced out by party leaders shortly thereafter.

Current Chairman Alex X. Mooney said in a statement that Mr. Ready’s experience “makes him the right choice to serve as the interim executive director through the end of 2011.”

Mr. Mooney, a state senator from 1999 to 2011, praised Miss Jorns’ work in expanding the influence of the state’s minority party during her tenure. Maryland Republicans gained six seats last November in the House of Delegates, while losing two seats in the Senate.
