Just got off the phone with Nats GM Jim Bowden, who said the club will place Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day DL (retroactive to May 26) and likely recall outfielder/infielder Kory Casto from Class AAA Columbus to join the roster tomorrow.
As far as how long Zimmerman will be out, that’s still very much up in the air. “We don’t have enough information to make a conclusion at this point,” Bowden said. “I’ve seen this injury before where in another five or seven days of rest, he could be ready to go. I’ve also seen where the player had to operated on.”
The club is FedEx-ing copies of the MRI to Drs. Andrews, Kremchek and Cofield and hopes to have opinions from all three tomorrow. Regarldess of what they say, it’s clear the Nats are concerned about Zimmerman’s long-term well-being.
“We’re not looking for a short-term solution here,” Bowden said. “We’re going to do our homework and get the best information to make the right decision for him and for the club.”
