A county meeting will  be held this evening to further discuss the plans of Wal Mart Company to build a super store at the edge of the Wilderness Battlefield in Orange County, Virginia.  Wal Mart has refused to consider any other site than the one which many historians (myself included) and preservationists feel is an improper one  abutting this sacred battlefield site.  An additional meeting will come before the City Council next Tuesday in a further attempt to bring some sort of agreement on the matter, but both sides seem unwilling to compromise to the extent needed.

Stay tuned for this ongoing and relevant discussion.  Will Rogers used to say ‘buy land - they aren’t making any more of it.”  We could modify that to say “save battlefields — they will never come around again.”
