ANNAPOLIS —- Navy wide receiver Matt Aiken was injured during the Midshipmen’s first scrimmage of camp.

Aiken suffered a knee injury after a rushing attempt. Coach Ken Niumatalolo did not immediately know the severity of the problem.

“You’re always concerned,” Niumatalolo said. “He’s one of our best players. He’s a starting wideout. He’s our punt returner. He’s worked hard, and so hopefully it’s not too bad. We’ve got three weeks so we’ll see.”

The junior had 13 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He also had 10 punt returns for 50 yards. Aiken started all but one game a year ago for the Mids.

Navy is already without senior wideout Brandon Turner, who failed a pre-camp conditioning test and will not join the Mids until at least Aug. 20. Navy opens the season Sept. 1 against Notre Dame.
