It will be American’s first postseason game since the 2009 NCAA tournament and its first appearance in the CIT.
American went 20-11 while finishing third in the Patriot League. Buffalo finished second in the Mid-American Conference and went 18-10. The Bulls, who played in the CIT last year, also lost in their conference semifinals.
The 24-team CIT doesn’t have a conventional bracket. Instead, it attempts to regionally pair opponents after each round is complete.
