ANNAPOLIS —- Navy fullback Maika Polamalu was carted out of practice Monday with a left knee injury.
It turned out to be not quite the scare coach Ken Niumatalolo initially thought it was.

Polamalu might not be involved in the final two weeks of Navy’s spring practice, but the sophomore is not expected to be hindered by the injury in the long term.
“He’s better than we thought,” Niumatalolo said Wednesday. “It came back that he doesn’t have any tears. He might have some strains. I thought it was worse than that, so I’m grateful. Hopefully, he might come back at the end of spring or he might be out, but it’s not serious.”
Polamalu was not listed on Navy’s spring depth chart, though the fullback situation figured to be in flux with so little experience returning at the position.
