Wanted to put a reminder here of this weekend’s event at the K-Plex, as Corey calls the Capitals’ practice facility.

Put Cancer On Ice is putting on its second annual Dave Fay Memorial hockey game on Saturday, July 19, from 8:30 to 10 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, with the money brought in going to the American Cancer Society. Admission is free, though donations are accepted.
There also will be a silent auction for such items as signed Washington Capitals jersies, a signed All-Star jersey, and pucks signed by Alex Ovechkin, Joe Sakic, Marc Andre Fleury and others.
Dave Fay, of course, was our longtime hockey writer here at The Times. He passed away last summer — it will be a year ago this weekend — after a long battle with cancer. Without getting too sappy — for which he would only make fun of me — suffice it say that we all miss the guy quite a bit. He was on all of our minds as the Caps went on their playoff run this past season, all of us thinking the same thing: We wish Dave could have been here to experience it.
(And there are little Fay reminders every now and then, like today’s news on Terry Murray; had he still been with us, I’d have already gotten a phone call, e-mail or instant message from Dave offering to write the story)
He was a true pro and a worthy Hall of Famer.
