The good times were rolling at the French Embassy last night where TWT caught up with honorary Frenchman New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin at an event also attended by the French Ambassador Pierre Vimont, Yelberton Watkins, chief of staff to majority whip James Clyburne and lobbyists Lyndon Boozer and Gerry Harrington.

Mayor Nagin says he sees a lot of parallels between Mardi Gras and inaugural madness, and says transportation and security concerns are being handled properly.

“Ya’ll are going to do fine.”

Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of LBJ, was also in attendance and waxed nostalgic about the former president’s memory.

“This inauguration is the fulfillment of my father’s dream,” she said of her father, whose political clout was instrumental in securing passage of landmark pieces of civil rights legislation, including the Civil RIghts Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965

Ms. Johnson said she also wished her mother could join her this weekend. “Life is filled with ‘if onlys’. If only my mother could have lived to see this too,” she said of Lady Bird Johnson, who passed away in 2007.
