Senate candidate Marco Rubio’s campaign war chest is bulging.

The Florida Republican said he has raised more than $5 million during the quarter ending Sept. 30, eclipsing the fundraising record for a three-month period he set in the second quarter of 2010.

Mr. Rubio, who leads in the polls over Rep. Kendrick B. Meek, the Democratic nominee, and independent Gov. Charlie Crist, heads into the final weeks of the campaign with more than $5.5 million in available cash, an increase of more than $1 million from the previous quarter.

Mr. Rubio, a former Florida House speaker, has raised a total of more than $16 million from almost 100,000 donors since he began his campaign last year. He said that 99 percent of his donors haven’t reached their contribution limit, meaning they’re free to give more money to the Miami lawyer.

Mr. Rubio holds double-digit or near-double-digit leads over Mr. Crist in most recent polls, and he leads Mr. Meek by an average of about 20 percentage points.
