After consistently trailing in polls for the past year, Connecticut Republican Linda McMahon has taken the lead in her state’s U.S. Senate race, according to a poll released Wednesday.
The poll by Rasmussen Reports shows Mrs. McMahon, wife of wrestling mogul Vince McMahon, with support from 49 percent of likely voters compared to 46 percent for her opponent, Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy.
The slight lead for Mrs. McMahon is a reversal from past results, including a poll last month by Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling that showed Mr. Murphy with an 8-point lead.
The two candidates are vying to replace independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, who will retire at the end of his term.
Mrs. McMahon has risen in the polls due in part to a decided fundraising advantage over her opponent, raising $14.1 million as of July 25 with about half of that money coming from her own pocket.
Mr. Murphy had raised just $5.6 million as of July 25.
