Rep. Todd Akin’s disastrous rape comment doesn’t initially appear to have damaged Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Missouri, where a new poll shows him leading President Obama by 10 points.
Mr. Obama lost Missouri by just a sliver in 2008 but has struggled to gain a foothold in the state this time around, trailing Mr. Romney 42-52 in a poll conducted by the Democratic-leaning firm Public Policy Polling.

The poll was conducted on Monday night, less than 48 hours after a local congressman running for U.S. Senate was virtually fired by his own party for suggesting in a local television interview that women who are raped are unlikely to become pregnant.
While Mr. Akin was initially favored to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, nearly every top Republican withdrew their support and financial backing. But Mr. Akin has refused to drop out of the race, even after a poll released Thursday showed him down 10 points.
