As Republicans flock to Tampa for this week’s Republican National Convention, they may be gathering on slightly unfriendly soil, according to a poll released Monday.
A new CNN/Time poll shows President Obama with a lead among Florida voters of 50 percent to 46 percent over presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Many polls this year have shown Mr. Obama maintaining a slight lead in the Sunshine State, which controls 29 electoral votes and is expected to be one of the key battlegrounds in this fall’s presidential election.

A CBS/New York Times/Quinnipiac University poll released last week showed the president with a 3-point lead in the state, while polls earlier this month by Purple Strategies and Rasmussen Reports showed Mr. Romney with respective leads of 1 and 2 percentage points.
According to Monday’s CNN/Time poll, Mr. Obama is benefitting largely from a 12-point advantage among women voters in the state and a 41-point advantage among non-white voters.
The poll also showed Mr. Romney with a 1-point lead in North Carolina, where next week’s Democratic National Convention will be held in Charlotte. The former Massachusetts governor has long been thought to have a slim lead in the state.
