The Ohio Democratic party is taking direct aim at Josh Mandel’s credibility with a new press release joking that the Republican Senate hopeful has been endorsed by the “boy who cried wolf.”
“Josh Mandel shares my ideals, my values and, most importantly, my less-than-casual relationship with the truth,” the “boy” said in the Democratic party’s tongue-in-cheek jab at Mr. Mandel, Ohio’s state treasurer and challenger to incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat.
“Us serial liars need to stick together, and now that Josh Mandel’s officially been crowned King of Ohio’s Liars, the choice for me is simple. I’m honored to support Josh,” the release continues.
The attack comes after five of Mr. Mandel’s statements were recently rated as “pants on fire” by the website PolitiFact Ohio. Mr. Brown has had one statement labeled a “pants on fire” mistruth, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
But Mr. Brown has also come under fire recently for bending the truth in one of his campaign commercials. In a recent ad touting the Obama administration’s auto bailout package, he stated that the alloy wheels on the popular Chevrolet Cruz model are made in Cleveland.
It turns out that the wheels featured in the commercial were actually made in Europe. Only the wheels on the Chevrolet Cruze Eco car – not the model in Mr. Brown’s ad – are manufactured in Cleveland.
