Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum, whose campaign is sponsoring a car in Monday’s rain-delayed Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida, said he had shared some tips from the campaign trail with the car’s driver.
“We got the No. 26 car, starting in the back of the pack, just like we do in this race,” the former Pennsylvania senator told The Washington Times-affiliated “American’s Morning News” radio program.

“I talked to the driver and I said, ‘Look: Hang back. Let all the other folks drop out of the race, get in accidents and have their problems. In the last 100 miles or so, make a charge. Get up there to the front and vie for the title. That’s what we’re doing in this race and hopefully the 26 car will stay out of the accidents and be there in the end.”
The car — a Ford Fusion — is being driven by NASCAR driver Tony Raines.
