The Obama campaign released a new TV ad Tuesday suggesting that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn’t pay any income tax in some years, citing his refusal to release all of his tax returns.
Titled “Makes You Wonder,” the commercial will greet Mr. Romney on the airwaves as he campaigns in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. A narrator notes that Mr. Romney paid less than 15 percent in taxes on $43 million in income over the past two years and says, “Makes you wonder if some years he paid any taxes at all.”

The ad is expected to run only one day. On Monday, Mr. Romney ignored calls from Democrats and some Republicans to release more than his 2010 and 2011 tax returns, noting that 2008 Republican nominee John McCain released only two years of tax returns.
Mr. Romney has released his 2010 tax records and an estimate for 2011, showing that he paid an effective tax rate of about 14 percent in 2010. The Republican’s campaign says Mr. Obama’s team is trying to divert attention from the sluggish economy.
A Romney campaign spokeswoman countered that Mr. Obama “has run one of the least transparent administrations in American history.”
“With no rationale for re-election and no plan to help middle-class Americans, President Obama has resorted to running a campaign of distraction, distortion and dishonesty,” Amanda Henneberg said.
