Thirsty attendees of this year’s Republican National Convention will have an extra hour to get a drink, as the Tampa City Council voted Thursday to allow bars to say open until 3 a.m.

Most bars and restaurants in the city must stop serving alcohol at 2 a.m. City lawmakers voted 4-0, with three absences, to extend closing time by an hour during the four-day event.

About 50,000 people are expected to visit the Tampa Bay area during the convention Aug. 27-30.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, which hosted the GOP convention in 2008, extended closing time for bars until 4 a.m.
