Rahm Emanuel, President-elect Barack Obama’s pick for White House chief of staff, discussed filling a vacant Senate seat with Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s chief of staff, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

However, there is nothing to suggest that Emanuel conducted any dealmaking for the seat or knew about Blagojevich’s purported “pay to play” scheme.

Right after Obama won the election, it looked like the economy would require all of his immediate attention. Then maybe terrorism and international affairs, after the attacks in Mumbai.

Now it’s a scandal that could involve his chief of staff.

It’s tough being president, ain’t it? Almost makes you wonder why anyone would run for office.
