The Vatican has accepted Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution has being complementary to church teachings, the Times Online is reporting.

Though the church never officially condemned Darwin, it did regard his theory as being out of synch with doctrine.

A Vatican-backed conference next month will mark the 150th anniversary of Darwin’s “On the Origin of Species” and will further show the church’s change of heart on evolution.

The Vatican is moving at a dizzying speed.  It took the church about 400 years to accept Galileo’s observations that the sun, not the Earth, was at the center of our solar system.  Now it has accepted Darwin’s evolution theory in 150 years.

The Vatican has finally entered the 19th century.
