New Hampshire political sources say Republican Sen. Judd Gregg will accept the post of Commerce secretary and the state’s Democratic will appoint another Republican to fill his seat, CNN is reporting.

The Democrats have a 58-seat majority in the Senate but need 60 for a filibuster majority. The agreement on Gregg’s successor will maintain the current balance of power.

Gregg’s selection as Commerce secretary brings the total number of Republicans in the Obama Cabinet to three — about two more than would have been in the McCain Cabinet apparently.

You might remember that Gregg won an $800,000 Powerball jackpot a few years back, so if he doesn’t do well in Commerce, maybe he’ll just get lucky.
