To the question, “What is the kissing capital?” one might expect the answer “Paris” or “Venice” or even “Schnectady.”

(They do a lot of kissing in Schnectady. A lot. No tongue, though.)


Well, the correct answer is — Guanajuato, Mexico, the AP is reporting.

Mayor Eduardo Romero proclaimed his city “the kissing capital” to blunt claims that he has forbidden lip locking in public. The wording of new anti-obscenity ordinance made some residents think kissing was a finable offense.

The ordinance is now being reviewed for revision.

Meanwhile, it’s time to pucker up in Guanajuato, so break out the lip balm — and the antibacterial rinse.
