The string quarter led by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman did not play live during Barack Obama’s inauguration and instead “finger synched” their performance, the New York Times is reporting.

The classical musicians pre-recorded their performance because they feared the cold weather and strong winds would hurt their instruments.
