Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich hired a public relations firm to launch a national media blitz before the state Senate holds his impeachment trial next week, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

The Publicity Agency is known for “crisis managment” and is the same PR firm hired by ex-cop Drew Peterson, who is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Now this is just what Blagojevich needed — more national attention.  At least this PR firm comes well recommended.  “Thanks, Drew.”

I don’t think Blagojevich understands the purpose of public relations: It’s to make the unlikable likable, not the guilty innocent.

Since Blagojevich’s attorney has left, I guess he needed someone to make his case for him.  Personally, I would have gone with another attorney, but that’s just me.

Because of this PR media blitz, you’re likely to see Blagojevich on “Larry King Live” and “Good Morning, America” as well as “Law and Order” and “America’s Most Wanted.”
