The Illinois Senate has convicted Rod Blagojevich in his impeachment trial, thereby removing him from the governor’s office.

The Senate vote was unanimous.  Then the legislative body voted to ban Blagojevich from ever holding an elected office again in Illinois.  Again the vote was unanimous.

Blagojevich probably wasn’t surprised by the Senate vote.  After all, he had taken odds on it going either way.

Wow, I thought Blagojevich had talked some sense into the senators.  My mistake.

“So this means that ‘pay for play’ IS illegal. OK, I get that now,” Blagojevich said.
