The economic downturn is forcing “Sesame Street” to lay off a fifth of its 355 staffers, the Financial Times is reporting.

The Sesame Workshop, the 41-year-old nonprofit group behind the public television educational program, has seen a drop in donations from Wall Street firms and in revenue from its investments.

I suspected something was wrong when I saw Count von Count the other day.  He had a sign that read, “Will count for food.”  Sad.
