Bernard Madoff, who pleaded guilty to running a $65 billion fraud scheme, now is residing in a Manhattan jail cell about the size of a walk-in closet, the AP is reporting.

Before pleading guilty to 11 federal charges, Madoff had been under house arrest in his $7 million penthouse on Park Avenue. His new home at the Metropolitan Correctional Center measures 7 1/2 feet by 8 feet and features cinderblock walls, bunk beds, a sink and a toilet.

Welcome home, Bernie!

Madoff reportedly had been complaining about being a “prisoner” in his own penthouse a few weeks ago.  Hope he’s happy now.

You know, swindling thousands of people out of their life savings can be tiring.  Let’s hope Madoff gets a lot of down time.
