Sources close to Barbara Walters say the veteran interviewer plans to retire when this summer her contract with ABC is over, the National Enquirer is reporting.
Her friends say Walters, 79, feels burned out and wants to spend more time with her boyfriend.

Walters told one friend, “I don’t want to be 80 and working the phones to land an interview with one of the nobodies who pass for celebrities today.” Well, who does — at any age?
Walters has interviewed EVERYBODY. The only person she hasn’t interviewed is herself. Now THAT would be good television:
Walters: “What kind of tree would you be?”
Barbara: “Why do you ask?”
Walters: “It’s my job.”
Barbara: “You should retire.”
I hope Rose O’Donnell doesn’t find out about Walters’ retirement. She’ll want to come back to “The View” — and bite Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
