Big soccer game today between Turkey and Germany to see who got into the Euro 2008 Final, but unfortunately much of the world probably didn’t get to see it. Germany won 3-2, but the television feed was in and out for much of the second half. My understanding is that it was not an ESPN issue, but a satellite issue affecting everyone.

This is not good … the last thing anyone should do is tick off a European soccer fan.

UPDATE: An ESPN spokeswoman tells me the outage was the result of lightning that affected just about everyone over in Europe:

“Lightning in Vienna knocked out the IBC — international broadcast center - creating a global problem..not just ESPN.  ESPN commentators alerted viewers verbally on-air and we ran a graphic crawl.”
