Congressman Jim Moran, Virginia Democrat, fell on himself recently at an October 6th meeting of the Arlington County Democratic Committee, reports the Washington Examiner. Mr. Moran thought he could take a shot at both the GOP and his Republican challenger Patrick Murray this election season, by saying his opponent, a retired Army colonel with 24 years of military service and combat time in Iraq, does not have real public service experience.

REP. MORAN: What they do is that they find candidates..usually stealth candidates that haven’t been in office, haven’t served or performed in any public service. My opponent is typical, frankly. And of course for 24 years he’s taken a government check, because of course, the military is still part of the federal government, and yet his principle platform is to cut government spending.

Congressman Moran, insulted the men and women in uniform in a number of ways. First, he relegated the troops who are risking their lives each day overseas to simply government employees who clock in and collect their paychecks. Secondly, Mr. Moran shows in this video that he believes, his current position as a U.S. Congressman makes him superior to an individual who served in the military.

While Congressman Moran reportedly said he had “misspoken,” such back-peddling is difficult to believe. It was not just a word or two that Mr. Moran flubbed but he gave an entire opinion on the matter. Nice try, Congressman, but you mocked and insulted not only Mr. Murray, but the U.S. military, their families, and Americans who really do support and appreciate what our troops do for us.
