Legendary comic book store owner Greg Bennett provides a pair of recommendations for comic book lovers every week. Titles are either currently on specialty store shelves or shipping or in the near future. Fans can also click on the covers to appreciate the fine art.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume III from Top Shelf Productions

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume III: Century No. 1: 1910, Top Shelf Productions ($7.95)

The title’s a mouthful — just ask for “League 3 #1”. One of the best comics (and worst comic book movies) of the last decade is back! Alan Moore (yeah, the Watchmen guy) and Kevin O’Neill bring us the latest installment of everyone’s favorite Victorian super-heroes — now in the 20th Century. You must have this!

Little Lulu: The Alamo and Other Stories from Dark Horse Comics

Little Lulu: The Alamo and Other Stories, trade paperback, Dark Horse Comics ($14.95)

And for the young (and young at heart), Dark Horse presents their newest volume of Little Lulu reprints by John Stanley in full-color! Seriously one of the best all-ages comics of all-time (the other two are Uncle Scrooge by Carl Barks, and Bone by Jeff Smith). So get it for a kid, but read it yourself before you give it to ‘em — you won’t be disappointed.

Greg Bennett is the Owner/Manager of Big Planet Comics, a chain of pop art specialty stores in the DC Metro area with locations in Georgetown, Bethesda, Vienna, & College Park.
