HURT: Newtown as political tool against guns

The truth is, President Obama and his fellow politicians have no real plan for curbing gun violence. Twenty children were murdered by a psychopath and they smelled blood. And they did what politicians do. They used the poor dead children to push their political agenda.

HURT: Communing with hatemongers from the pulpit

President Obama sure is serpent-bit when it comes to going to church. First, it was his longtime Chicago preacher who dragged the young presidential aspirant into hot water with all his fiery old sermons about the U.S. of KKK and chickens coming home to roost. Now, his most regular preacher, we find out, hangs out with white supremacists.

HURT: Please withhold your judgment of prison father-daughter dances

The purpose of the very traditional father-daughter dance inside prison walls is just what you would think. It gives lost little girls a glimpse of their fathers in a highly controlled environment. And it gives fathers a heart-wrenching glimpse of their daughters, which hopefully becomes an incentive to get through their prison stint and stay out.

Rage over the waste and injustice of agents sent by the federal government to bang on doors of law-abiding citizens to ask probing, creepy questions is normally something that bubbles up only every 10 years. But ever since the federal government became a cancerous leviathan, the outrage is now an annual occurrence.

The Oscar-winning tale "Argo" contains a movie within the movie. Comparisons to Shakespeare's Hamlet — or anything worth remembering, for that matter — certainly end there. HURT: Anti-gun zealots going ‘cuckoo’ from coast to coast

In New York, they are rounding up the crazies. In Seattle, they want armed police invading the homes of law-abiding gun owners for annual "inspections." In Denver, plans are under way to levy new taxes on gun owners to raise millions for the state's strained coffers.

Living here in the shadow of our nation's great Capitol in this fine Federal City, my neighbors and I enjoy the peace and serenity of a tightly enforced "no-fly" zone. By "peace" and "serenity" I mean that we are under near-constant assault by helicopters everywhere whapping just over our rooftops.

HURT: Congress doesn’t mend its old ways

Congress and the White House have so utterly disgraced themselves and this country over the past few years it seemed impossible for them to do any worse. What an irony it was to watch the National Rifle Association's Wayne LaPierre finally emerge after a self-imposed and highly publicized week of silence after the incomprehensible killings of 20 elementary school children.

HURT: After Conn. tragedy, Washington thinks of … political gain

Only in this capital of self-absorbed arrogance do people learn of an incomprehensible slaughter of angelic children huddled in terror and immediately think — well, of themselves. And how they can, in their boundless power and wisdom, fix it so it never happens again. Only in this town do people witness such madness and carnage and think of — what else? — low, dirty politics.
