The news laments the depressing details of COVID-19 every day. I am not an expert immunologist, but this is my perspective as a teen. When schools first closed, we teens were excited: We could now sleep in, go to class in our pajamas and have breakfast in bed. However, these brief moments of enjoyment have now turned into the dread of being locked at home all day.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Replace polls with mailed ballots

Voting by mail should replace voting at the polls entirely. The two institutions that can definitely be trusted are county elections boards and the United States Postal Service. The money saved by eliminating the need for poll workers could go toward offering free postage on the envelopes used to vote by mail.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Media prizes only trumping Trump

President Trump has finally stated what all of us could clearly see with our own eyes: The White House press corps is overwhelmingly populated by phony journalists whose only objective is to find something -- anything -- they can use to attack and undermine the president ("White House blasts media for 'irresponsibly' taking Trump out of context on disinfectants," Web, April 24). No foreign enemy could do as much damage to our country as the mainstream media.

EDITORIAL: Democrats cry ‘xenophobe’ as Trump does what’s best for American workers

Last week, President Donald Trump made an announcement via Twitter just about no one saw coming: "In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!" By Wednesday the proclamation had been signed, and just like that, immigration into the United States, with some exceptions, was put on pause.

As I approach my ninth decade, I often reminisce and ponder the memorable moments and events in my life. I am happy and grateful to report that I participated in, benefitted from and lived through the most productive and prosperous years of America. In "Mike Pompeo accuses China of withholding samples needed to track evolution of coronavirus" (Web, April 22), Bill Gertz reports a change of plans by Richard Soofer, deputy assistant secretary for nuclear and missile defense policy. Mr. Gertz notes that in the recent Missile Defense Review the focus changed from limited regional defenses to preparing to counter a much wider range of missile threats.

EDITORIAL: Looking back, 2020 will recall an aberrant and deadly year

If the asterisk didn't already exist, someone would need to invent it. The little starburst is destined to appear everywhere the details of pandemic-dominated 2020 are documented. Wherever it pops up, the asterisk will serve to remind future readers something happened that year which requires additional explanation to grasp. The billions living through the coronavirus contagion, though, will have their own disturbing flashbacks that recall a year like none in living memory.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Kosovo not hopeless

In his op-ed, "Let Bill Clinton's failed Kosovo strategy wither amid the COVID-19 pandemic" (Web, April 22) J. Michael Waller makes several false claims. He writes that the U.S. presence in Kosovo is a must to "keep locals from killing each other," but he apparently forgets we are not in the 1998-99 conflict anymore -- and that the last ethnically motivated unrest, which claimed 14 lives, was recorded in March 2004.

EDITORIAL: Environmentalists learn the wrong lesson from contagion

Earth Day has reached the ripe old age of 50. In all those years, the day of action on behalf of the planet has never produced the real-world impact of the current coronavirus contagion. Now that climate activists have witnessed what a genuine global emergency looks like, their passion for a repeat may prove irresistible. The segment of society that feeds, clothes, shelters and heals humanity -- that is, almost everyone -- should beware of efforts to hitch an environmental crisis to the ravages of a pestilence the world is already battling.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Trump must now save U.S.

President Trump is right to soon reopen our country in three phases. He is right to move gradually in some sectors but also to move quickly in others to save critical parts of the country. It is wrong for doctors, when in doubt, to put "COVID-19" as decedents' cause of death in order to try to increase the "score." We have data to show that early assumptions about this virus were way overblown, with deaths due to it being far fewer than the World Health Organization and many experts predicted.

The governor's proclamation is not accurate in any dimension.
