EDITORIAL: Air Force witchcraft

The U.S. military's success in Pakistan this week proved the importance of maintaining a team focused on accomplishing dangerous missions. Others on the left prefer to look upon the armed forces as a playground to experiment with fringe ideas. Take the Air Force Academy which reportedly held a ceremony on Tuesday to dedicate a pile of rocks in the academy's "worship area for followers of Earth-centered religions."

EDITORIAL: Welfare nation

The latest economic indicators suggest America's sputtering economic engine may conk out once again. Disappointing service-sector and job-growth figures released Wednesday are signs of rough times ahead. With a weak dollar and stratospheric gasoline prices, millions more could find themselves seeking government assistance. The administration appears to be just fine with that.

On Sept. 11, 2001, the twin towers of the World Trade Center burn and later collapse after hijacked planes deliberately crashed into them in New York City. A multimillion-dollar reward was offered for now-dead terrorist Osama bin Laden after the attacks.

EDITORIAL: Obama’s Ground Zero hypocrisy

Unconscionable. Politicizing. A slap in the face. Those were the kinds of phrases the left deployed against President George W. Bush to suggest he was exploiting the memory of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. These same voices are now giddy with delight at the prospect of President Obama's "mission accomplished" visit to Ground Zero on Thursday. Such hypocrisy is par for the course.

EDITORIAL: May Day malaise

May 1 brought marches and rallies to commemorate International Workers' Day to nearly every corner of the globe. Yet even the left was unable to muster much enthusiasm for a socialist holiday that in the United States has morphed into an excuse to demand amnesty for those living and working in the country illegally. That's a message that few are buying when jobs are already in short supply.

EDITORIAL: America’s Muslim precedent

The White House went out of its way to make certain that Osama bin Laden received full traditional Muslim burial rites. Obama officials claimed they did so to honor the Islamic religion, but they were also honoring bin Laden. Such acts are unacceptable on behalf of America's mortal enemy; no one suggested Adolf Hitler's remains receive a Viking funeral.

EDITORIAL: Big Labor’s attack on democracy

President Obama's hand-picked appointees at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) are delivering favors to the administration's Big Labor backers. In just the past two weeks, the board has taken steps to overturn the will of voters in two states and chill the speech of corporate chieftains who spoke out against the labor movement's thuggish tactics.

EDITORIAL: Killing Osama won’t help Obama in 2012

On "The View" on Monday, Barbara Walters said, "I would hate now to be a Republican candidate thinking of running," and Joy Behar beamed, "Skip the next election." The liberal media's best hopes aside, taking down Osama bin Laden won't guarantee Barack Obama's re-election in 2012.

EDITORIAL: Justice for bin Laden

Osama bin Laden is dead because justice demanded he die. For 10 years, the terror master was the man who got away with it. Bin Laden perpetrated the most destructive and deadly act of terrorism on U.S. soil and lived to tell the tale. Because of this, he was an inspiration to any jihadist fanatic who wanted to follow in his violent footsteps. It didn't matter whether bin Laden had any input into subsequent al Qaeda operations, whether he was in charge, advising or simply relaxing while other, younger men ran the organization for him. Because of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, he was Public Enemy No. 1 until his demise.

EDITORIAL: No Class: Obama snubs Bush, praises himself

It can be awkward when a dove tries to pass himself off as a war hero. From the tone of President Obama's speech Sunday night, it'd be easy to conclude he was the one who came up with the idea that America should hunt down and kill Osama bin Laden. He also made it sound like he was the one who formulated the takedown plan. We can look forward in coming days to details of the actual operation, emphasizing Mr. Obama's intimate involvement.

EDITORIAL: Obama’s approval freefall

"April is the cruelest month," T.S. Eliot warned, and particularly for Presi- dent Obama. The White House had been enjoying a robust run-up in the polls since the "shellacking" of Democrats in November's midterm elections, but over the last month, Mr. Obama was back in freefall.

EDITORIAL: Obama’s gunrunning hypocrisy

The Obama administration on Friday renewed its proposal to force gun dealers in four southwest border states to register multiple firearms sales. According to its filing in the Federal Register, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) wants to create detailed records of whenever anyone attempts to purchase more than one semi-automatic rifle in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. The registry scheme highlights Department of Justice (DOJ) hypocrisy on the gun issue.

EDITORIAL: Admit it, Obamanomics has failed

The only thing dropping faster than President Obama's poll numbers is America's economic future. Only one in five believe the country is headed in the right direction, according to a Rasmussen Reports survey released Thursday. More than half of those responding to Gallup's queries believe we are either in a recession or depression. The grim mood reflects growing disenchantment with administration policies that have sucked the life out of the economy.

EDITORIAL: Gun grabbers grasp at straws

Gun grabbers love statistics, especially when they're misleading. The latest report from the Violence Policy Center (VPC) would have us believe that Americans are lined up at the recycling center ready to toss out their Glocks. The group claims that a firearm protected every other home in 1980 but only one out of three today. It's a not-so-subtle attempt to convey the message that the anti-Second Amendment crowd is winning.
