A little nugget from the Annapolis Capital’s Bill Wagner this morning: Navy quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada is out indefinitely with a hamstring injury.

The Midshipmen do have a quarterback with some experience in senior Jarod Bryant. But Bryant was the starting slotback for the first week of camp, and with two other slotbacks ailing (Andre Byrd and Greg Shinego), it leaves the Mids a little shorter than expected at the position.

A hamstring injury is obviously never a helpful thing, but it could have even more serious implications in an option-based scheme where the offense sort of hinges on the quarterback’s ability to run.

Wagner writes that first-year coach Ken Niumatalolo wasn’t going to put a timetable on Kaipo’s return. That’s probably a smart move. The last thing Navy needs is little depth at quarterback just because Kaipo was hurried back for the first game or two.
